Apart from providing you with a rough idea about the costs, we also shine a light upon the pros and cons of having a destination event instead of a traditional celebration which will help you decide better. To arrive at an approximate costing we have taken a rough estimate considering 100 guests as average accommodating at a 5 starred resort. This will give you an idea of the cost.
Goa is divided into two halves, the north and the south. Most tourists make their way north which is where they will spend the rest of their vacation. The south is a lot more private, and far less crowded as compared to the north. Majority of the resorts and hotels in the south have beach front properties. It is perfect for those who want to have a beach ceremony. You could have an intimate shore side gathering, or a classy celebration at a villa or perhaps something really simple as a casual one at a beach shack.
GUEST ACCOMMODATION COSTS
For any destination event, accommodation for your guest s should be your top priority. If the average number of guests are 100 they would require 50 rooms with double occupancy along with a 3 days and 2 nights stay, with meals included. This way, the guests can arrive and freshen up, have lunch and get ready for the Mehendi or the Sangeet dinner and get the festivities started. On the second day, they can spend the morning relaxing and preparing for the afternoon/evening celebration. After spending most of the night dancing and enjoying your celebration, they can wake up easy, have breakfast and check out of the hotel the next day.
To give you broad idea the spending for accommodation and venue, pricing varies on the type of room rates and inclusions offered by these properties which we classify as the three tiers. Tier 1 comprises of deluxe properties that include the Leela -Mobor, Lalit Golf & Spa Resort- Canacona and the Taj Exotica- Benaulim to name a few that is in the price range of Rs. 18,000 per room a night on a twin sharing basis. Again, you have the element of seasonal tariffs that has an effect on the prices as well.
On an average the room inventory for most of these properties is around 150 rooms and availability for booking period of three months and above is 50- 60 rooms. Room rates can be inclusive of all meals as well, however a standard quote will include breakfast and local transfers. Room tariffs vary each season, these rates are only to provide you with a bird’s-eye view of what the costing entails across various starred properties.
Starred resorts have provisions for indoor and outdoor venues within their properties itself so you can decide upon banquet halls, open lawns and even beachside restaurants. Stand alone venues range anywhere between Rs. 1,00,000 to Rs. 2,00,000 depending on the amenities offered. Beside this there would also be the cost of transportation as well. But this will also depend on the category of resorts and location too. For example some of the sought after properties are RadisonBlu, Ramada, Kenilworth, along with The Leela, The Lalit, Park Hyatt, and Alila Diwa.
Apart from the accommodation arrangements, a budget needs to be set aside for the venue as well. This can range between INR 75,000 to INR 3 lakh, this too is dependent on whether the venue is the private lawns, the beach, or a banquet hall.
After the guest accommodation arrangements are settled, preparations for the various events, parties, and ceremonies can begin. A conventional timeline for a Hindu wedding begins with the Mehendi Ceremony which is then followed by the Sangeet all of which takes place on the day one. On the second day, the Haldi ceremony takes place followed by the wedding ceremony and then the reception. While estimating a budget for a timeline such as this keep in mind that the bookings calendar for the martial season in Goa begins soon after the festival of Ganesh Chaturthi onwards which is during the months of October-November and continues until the months of April-May which concludes the season. The month of December is the most expensive as you also have the vacationer crowed that arrives during this time. The second aspect is the location, beach locations are very popular and the priced much higher in comparison to venues towards the cities or those that are away from the beach.
Mandap decor is another important aspect which includes the floral arrangements for it. This is accompanies with other elements such as the entrance arches, main-stage for the reception, sound and the right amount of lighting that includes the illumination lighting as well ambient lighting. There are plenty of options available, all at various price points. Cost of accommodation would include meals, local transfers and other amenities available at the Hotel.
Now on to the entertainment, there will either have to be a DJ or a live band playing to keep the party alive. About INR 1 lakh to INR 2 lakh would be a decent budget for two days’ worth entertainment.
